In the pitch-black night, stung by jellyfish, choking on salt water, singing to herself, hallucinating … Diana Nyad just kept on swimming. And that’s how she finally achieved her lifetime goal as an athlete: an extreme 100-mile swim from Cuba to Florida — at age 64. Hear her story.

Nyad is an american author, journalist, motivational swimmer and a long-distance swimmer.
She swam many long distances, so as from the Bahamas to Florida in 1979 (102 miles ; 164 km)
In 2013, at the age of 64 in her fifth attempt, she became the first to swim from cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage (110 miles ; 180 km)
